The Chinese government continued its vilification campaign against the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to a jailed dissident, Liu Xiaobo, by canceling another meeting with Norwegian officials and lambasting the award. They're doing this as an example for Chinese people who plot against the government. Liu Xiaobo was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, On Oct. 8, 2010, for recognition of “his long and nonviolent struggle for fundamental human rights in China.” He was also the first Chinese citizen to win the award. However, last December he was sentenced to 11 years in prison.
I believe that the Chinese government shouldn't deny him this dubious honor. Despite the fact that he has broken they're laws he has achieved something no one else in their esteemed past has done. And, this makes the Chinese image look terrible because of this situation. I condem the Norweigan Committee for still tying to give him the award, but thee is nothing they can do to fix this.
